Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, spent 12 formative years in Portugal after her family moved there when she was seven, then returned to the U.S. to pursue her dream of becoming a broadcast journalist. She graduated with Dean’s List honors from Emerson College in Boston. While at Emerson, Paula co-founded WEBN in Boston, a college television station that ranked number one in the northeast and delivered on-air reports for the college radio station.
Paula was among the first employees hired to launch Time Warner Cable’s Capital News 9 in Albany on Oct. 11, 2002. She decided what stories to cover and supervised the production of newscasts for the 24-hour news channel, which was a completely new concept at the time. She later wrote and produced newscasts at WNYT - Channel 13, an NBC affiliate in Albany.
She launched her broadcasting career with NECN in Newton, MA. Reported for WB56 TV, and WERS Radio in Boston. From there she joined WGGB in Springfield Massachusetts, and then moved on to WFSBTV in Hartford Connecticut. Eventually, her journey brought her to Albany, NY.
Paula taught several media-related courses at Russell Sage College in Albany. Hired as a communications professor and advisor, she revived the college’s newspaper and led writing seminars for state employees. She chaired the Broadcast Journalism Department at The New School of Radio and Television in Albany and was promoted to director of education.
Paula developed “Parentology with Paula,” an upbeat half-hour television news show that explored family issues and aired on various networks. She produced and hosted the show, shot most of the scenes, wrote and edited copy, and sold advertisements.
Paula founded the related non-profit organization “Family First Always.” She became a prolific fundraiser and hosted several popular community events that benefitted the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Autism Society, and other groups. Hosted The Parent of The Year Gala. The "Yes I Am" summer camp for children with disabilities and "Heels on Broadway."
Paula hosted and reported news for “Her Look,” a half-hour show on the independent Look TV.
